Hello Loves, Happy Monday!
It is the start of the week and full of opportunity!
This past weekend I competed in my first NPC bodybuilding competition at the Lee Labrada Classic in the Bikini division. I competed in the Open category, which is for any competitor, and Novice, which is directed for more of the first time competitors. Open competed first and I guess you could say I got my nerves out during that round. When I was walking on stage I was literally shaking! During my posing I was telling myself to calm down, but I shimmied my way through the whole thing. Back stage before novice, I said a little prayer to relax and just go out there to have fun instead of building the pressure on myself. It worked. I went out there more natural, had a genuine smile, and ended up in the top 5, 1st call outs.
I was kind of upset with myself at first about the open category, but then realized this was my first competition and it was a great learning experience. The first timer nerves are out and I can confidently walk out on stage next time.
Overall the experience was pleasant and I now know what to expect when I compete again. Besides being on stage, my favorite part was talking with the other contestants. It was really neat being surrounded by people with the same mind set and all having the same drive to achieve our fitness goals. I can’t wait to cheer them on in future competitions!
I went through this whole prep and competition weekend with my boyfriend and I can honestly say I would not have made it to the end without him. When I wasn’t motivated, he inspired me to keep going. When I was being lazy, he told me to get to the gym. Prep isn’t an easy thing to do with your significant other. Two hungry and grumpy people together isn’t ideal! But, we made it work to our benefit. Thank you, Clifton, for being so wonderful.
My coach and trainer was Cody Hornsby and posing coach was Leanne Calderon from STR8 Training out in San Marcos, Tx. Both were absolutely encouraging and sincerely cared about not just my results but how I was mentally doing during prep. I would get random “just checking on you” or “how are you feeling?” texts every now and then which showed their support. They are both very knowledgeable and “talk the talk” as they are both competitors as well. Thank you guys!
Last but certainly not least, thank you to all my family and friends who have been so supportive throughout all of this. The text messages, calls, social media support, all of it really did help keep me going. Thank you to my mom who came over the first day of prep and helped me cook since I didn’t know how to then!! (haha!) I am border line a professional chef now though. So that’s another plus from this journey! But seriously, thank you.
I wasn’t sure if I would do this again, but I am 100 percent sure you will see me on stage again. =) Until then, it’s time to eat some food, okay, a lot of food, and grow these legs and shoulders!
