Nicholas Sparks is probably one of my all time favorite authors. The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Dear John, and most recent, Safe Haven, are books written by Nicholas Sparks that have been made into movies. I was already planning a trip to visit one of my best friends in North Carolina when I started wondering if the places in his books really did exist. After research and a little planning, my best friend and I mapped out a four day road trip along the coast of the Carolinas to visit the destinations found in the books.
We started in Charleston, South Carolina, which I recommend anyone go to. You don’t have to be on a book tour to absolutely fall in love with this romantic city. The last stop was Wilmington, North Carolina, which is a little town that prides itself on being the film location of two of Spark’s books.
Almost all of The Notebook locations were found in Charleston, South Carolina.
Allie and Noah’s House -This is private property and couldn’t get closer. It was also raining that day so the quality of the photo isn’t as great as I wish it were.
The dock of the famous part “I wrote you 365 letters. I wrote you every day for a year. It wasn’t over… it still isn’t over.” –Interesting fact-The pond that they ride in from, with all the swans, is at a completely different location.
The exact location Allie and Noah first danced and laid in the middle of the street. This is actually a very busy street and I was only laying there for about three seconds before cars came!
The movie theater where Allie and Noah had their set up date
The restaurant that Noah saw Allie for the first time in over a year through the window. Allie was having lunch with Lon Hammond.
A Walk to Remember
Southport, North Carolina
This was the church that Jamie’s dad was the pastor at. (This isn’t the wedding scene. That church is on a private plantation)
Wilmington, North Carolina
The exact location where Jamie told Landon she was sick
Jamie Sullivan’s House
Isle of Palms Pier, South Carolina
The pier from the beginning of the movie when Savannah drops her purse in the ocean and John dives in to rescue it.
Southport and Wilmington, North Carolina
The letter Katie received from Jo, Alex’s wife, which Jo wrote before she died of cancer.
Alex’s House (We wanted to see Katie’s cabin so bad but it was gated and all locked up!)
“Ivans” Katie’s work place (Real restaurant with a beautiful view)
There were many more places we visited such as the Ferry ride from Safe Haven and we took a tour of Allie’s mansion from The Notebook. Allie’s mansion was breathtaking but no cameras were allowed. If you are a fan of Nicholas Sparks like myself, I would recommend doing this!
What books/films would you want to take a tour for? Leave your answer in the comments, I’m interested in knowing!
