I have been asked to write more fitness related blogs so here you go two in a row! The topic today is cheat meals. Yum, I am hungry just thinking about all the great foods while I write this blog post!
You probably have heard that diet is 90%, or 80%, or some large percent of your fitness goals. Although this is true, steering away from the clean eating every once in awhile proves to actually be more beneficial than hurtful. Depending on your personal body type and what your fitness goals are, leaving one or two meals per week for cheat meals is perfectly fine. I recommend it.
Well, first, you’re human. Psychologically, you need comfort and variety in almost anything in life and that means food too. It is tough for anyone to stick to a clean no cheat diet 24/7. You have to treat yourself, of course!
Second, when you have been eating clean then surprise your body with a cheat meal, you spike your glycogen level. (Glycogen is the main source of energy from your body.) When you don’t use the glycogen, your body stores it for when you need it. You’ll see an increase in your energy levels which ultimately will spark up your motivation. (Motivation= Better work outs)
My favorite cheat meal?
What is the best cheat meal for fitness goals?
Hamburger and fries.
Hamburger naturally has creatine in it which is great for building lean muscle mass. It also possesses a good amount of protein to sustain muscle, vitamins B6 and B12 for increased energy, and contains zinc and iron to help blood flow and prevent fatigue.
The fries serve as a boost in carbohydrates which will spike leptin levels if you have been on a low carb diet. (Leptin is a protein that your body uses to regulate fat storage.)
The timing of your cheat meals can also be beneficial. First, plan the cheat meals out. If you don’t plan ahead, you risk giving into temptation too many times. Also, a cheat meal after a workout can actually aid in the digestion of the carbs and alter how the body will store them.
Remember, food is NOT the enemy! Food is your natural energizer and will only help you accomplish your fitness goals!
